1. Get the learner to question any directions, explanations, or instructions not grasped.

2. Examine prior to administering tests and exams to better prepare the learner.

3. Minimize the emphasis on test and quiz scores by grading the learner’s daily performances.

4. Provide mobility to regularly be near the learner when they take tests or exams or perform daily tasks.

5. Minimize the emphasis on competition. Fear of failure may cause the learner to resort to cheating or copying others’ work to be successful.

6. Place the learner away from others if they are prone to cheating and/or copying others’ work.

7. Place the learner near the teacher when taking tests or exams.

8. Make sure that other students do not let the learner look at their work during tests and exams and while performing tasks.

9. Ensure that the learner knows the consequences for cheating and/or copying others’ work (e.g., tasks will be taken away, failing grades will be recorded, etc.).

10. Coordinate to have a peer help the learner study for tests and exams and perform daily tasks.

11. Assess the level of difficulty concerning the learner’s capacity and ability to perform the task.

12. Make sure the learner knows all directions, explanations, and instructions prior to taking tests or exams and performing tasks.

13. Make sure the learner knows what questions can be asked when taking tests and exams or performing designated learning activities.

14. Connect with parents or guardians so they may help the learner study for tests and exams (e.g., send home directions, explanations, instructions relating to the content covered on tests and exams, content to review, etc.).

15. Get the learner to take tests and exams elsewhere in the school building under the individual supervision of an instructor (e.g., library, resource room, counselor’s office, etc.).

16. Observe the learner for obvious attempts to cheat prior to taking a test or quiz (e.g., “cheat sheet,” answers written on hands or cuffs, etc.).

17. Assist the learner in accepting the fact that self-improvement is more essential than getting the highest grade in the class, making all As, being the first one done with a task, etc., by reinforcing and grading on the basis of self-improvement.

18. Teach the learner to ask for help, stop playing, etc., when they feel like cheating.

19. Assist the learner in improving skills in learning activities in which they have cheated to lessen the need to cheat.

20. Do not put an emphasis on perfection or winning. If the learner feels that perfection or winning is the most essential thing, they may resort to cheating to reach perfection or win.
