CPSC recalls 21 million Miniverse toy sets for possible skin, eye and lung irritation

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a nationwide recall of 21 million Miniverse toy sets due to potential health hazards. These popular playsets, known for their miniature worlds and construction possibilities, pose risks of skin, eye, and lung irritation.
The recall affects all Miniverse toy sets sold between January 2018 and December 2023. The affected products include various themes such as “Space Explorers,” “Fantasy Kingdoms,” and “Medieval Knights,” all featuring tiny plastic pieces and accessories.
The CPSC investigation revealed that the plastic used in some Miniverse toys contains high levels of a chemical compound known as phthalate. This compound, commonly found in toys and other consumer products, is known to cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation in children. In severe cases, phthalate exposure can lead to developmental and reproductive problems.
“We understand that these Miniverse sets are beloved by many families, but we must prioritize the safety of our children,” said CPSC Chair Alexander Hoehn-Saric. “We are urging parents and guardians to immediately stop using these toys and contact the manufacturer for a full refund.”
Here’s what parents and guardians need to do:
Stop using the Miniverse toy sets immediately.
Check the packaging for the name “Miniverse” and the specific toy theme.
Contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to return the product and receive a full refund.

The CPSC recommends the following steps to minimize the risk of phthalate exposure:
Avoid allowing children to put toys in their mouths.
Wash toys regularly with soap and water.
Store toys in a dry, well-ventilated area.
Monitor children for any signs of skin, eye, or respiratory irritation.
This recall serves as a stark reminder of the importance of product safety and the potential risks associated with certain chemicals. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed and prioritize the well-being of their loved ones
