Using Cell Phones in Learning

Nowadays, almost every single teenager or learner in the world has access to a cell phone or technological device. For this reason, m-learning is becoming increasingly popular and easy for learners. 

There are various ways in which cell phones can be used to supplement learning. In this piece, we will discuss a few ways these devices can improve and make studying much easier for learners worldwide. 

Apps and Tools

Cell phones can be used by learners to gain access to various useful and convenient apps and tools. For example, Pedagogue is a social learning management system that allows learners worldwide to communicate and collaborate via a “virtual classroom” feature. Educators can use this app to organize their educational materials, providing learners with a central location for accessing school work. 

However, various apps can be used to make studying and learning much easier for learners. For example, YouTube is a top-rated tool that most learners use to watch videos based on their schoolwork. 

The Dictionary and Thesaurus 

Cell phones can be used by learners to gain access to a virtual dictionary. Searching through a real dictionary can be very time-consuming and tedious – virtual dictionaries are an excellent alternative. 

More so, cell phones allow learners to use the thesaurus. This tool can be used to search for synonyms, enabling learners to improve their writing and vocabulary. 

More Efficient Research

Searching for information online is much easier and less time-consuming than using books. Learners save lots of time working when they use tools, such as Google, to complete their research. This is yet another way in which technological devices can be used to make studying easier for learners. 

Faster and Easier Work

Another way learners can save time while working is by completing assignments and projects on their cell phones. Platforms, such as Google Docs, are incredibly convenient because they allow learners to continue working on one project from various devices at any time. In other words, if a learner starts an assignment at school on a laptop, they can continue working on the same project at home on their mobile device. 

Conclusion

Over the years, cell phones have transformed from being used as toys to educational tools. There are various reasons why these mobile devices are perfect for innovative learning. For example, cell phones provide learners with many apps and tools, such as Pedagogue and YouTube. 

Additionally, learners can use their phones to save time researching work for projects or assignments and by completing their school work on platforms such as Google Docs. Lastly, cell phones allow learners to improve their vocabulary via a virtual dictionary and thesaurus.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
