Are you looking for student portfolio apps, tools, and resources that you can use with your students? If so, we have you covered. Check out our list below. Let us know if there are any that we missed.

Spiral – With Spiral’s suite of free educational apps, teachers can transform their classroom into an interactive learning space. Apps can be used by the teacher to give quick formative assessments, help compile student portfolios, facilitate group projects, and turn any video into a live chat with discussion questions. Students simply need to have a device (smartphone, tablet, computer), and Spiral takes care of the rest, linking the devices and pushing out the teacher-designed content. Teachers can load pre-designed content or ask questions on the fly—Spiral can adapt to any teaching style. There is even a grade book section that teachers can use to document summative assessments, record student notes, and export to share with parents. Spiral can be applied across grade levels and with any subject.

ClassDojo– Keep parents informed about their children’s behavior and academic progress using this app. Record student behavior and development; upload photos that were taken throughout the school day to this platform. Students can also add assignments to their portfolio with just one click. You can also send visually aesthetic reports to parents and staff members.

Kannu – Kannu is a cloud-based learning management system, which uses tools such as media libraries, direct messaging, and user portfolios to achieve digital learning. With the use of active learning tools and management tools, Kannu allows users to have customized courses, which are essential for a creation and reiteration system. The platform makes use of responsive media on desktop and mobile devices to enhance the user’s experience. The platform also includes Kannu’s analytics, which gives actionable insight into how users interact with the platform and reports that help the user measure success.

Kornukopia Social – This platform provides social media services and tools that students, parents, lecturers, and schools need to communicate and learn effectively. Kornukopia Social uses a school-verified authentication with end-to-end encryption to ensure the protection of its users and the reputation of the schools using the software. The social platform has features that allow students to share their portfolios, such as calendar, message board, files, pictures, and more.

Kosmos – This is a digital software solution designed for every tier of education, from primary to higher education and state services. The software platform makes use of web portals, digital school environments, resource portals, e-portfolios solutions, and mobile solutions to provide digital solutions for education.

Mahara– Mahara is your new E-Portfolio that will manage your work and promote productivity. When all your belongings are in one place, it is so much easier to do work and so much easier to want to do work. With this learner-centered learning system, you can create, share, and engage with learners and collaborators with ease. No more hassle of managing notebooks, documents, and planners, because Mahara keeps it streamlined for you. Mahara can be used for work, school, or personal use.

Pathbrite– Pathbrite allows you to go over and beyond with your digital portfolio, away from the traditional one-dimensional presentations. It works for other documents such as job applications, resumes, or academic presentations. It allows you to break free and express yourself in your submissions; create and edit your digital portfolios to reflect your achievements, learning, and studies. This app has beautiful default templates and properly arranges items into appropriate categories; URLs and images can be inserted into the projects to help with authentication of information.

PebblePad– PebblePad is designed to act as an electronic portfolio (e-portfolio). It is a Personal Learning Space used in diverse learning contexts such as schools, colleges, universities, and professional bodies. It is useful for students, teachers, and testers for personal development planning; continuing professional development; and learning, teaching, and assessment. PebblePad was created with everything set to revolve around the student. It provides a framework to help users save records of learning, achievement, and goals. It also has a reflective structure underlining all its core elements.

Project Foundry– This is a learning tool that allows students to plan and monitor their learning progress; it helps teachers to sort student projects and submissions efficiently. The centralized collection of projects will enable students to easily access and assemble their digital portfolios—a necessary tool in today’s changing technological landscape.

Remini – Remini can be used to create a meaningful, transparent relationship between the school and parents. This tool can be used to create a portfolio consisting of a child’s memories and achievements; it can be accessed at any time and from anywhere.

Seesaw– Seesaw is a digital portfolio that shows you real-time glimpses into your child’s school day, which can be easily shared with parents to help them stay in the loop and support their child’s learning at home. Thus, this app helps clarify parent-educator communication and gives students more control of their education. It is a tool for drawing and recording, which makes it authentic and fun.

Sesame – Sesame helps schools showcase student learning outcomes by making ongoing documentation and assessment readily available. Sesame is an assessment platform designed to promote each student’s growing success. The tool shows teacher accountability and student growth with built-in standards and achievement charts. It also provides parents with access to private portfolios that give insight into the student’s experience.

WeVideo – WeVideo lets students design, create, collaborate, and share videos using an online platform. With tons of options for students, including a green screen, WeVideo puts them in the director’s chair. The website and app combination are cloud-based and can be used on any device. Useful for science reports, book talks, final projects, and portfolios, WeVideo can be successfully used across many classes.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
