In a recent review for The Chronicle of Higher Education, renowned historian Professor James Romm delves into the captivating world of “The Muse of History” by renowned author and scholar Robert B. Strassler.

Romm’s analysis highlights Strassler’s masterful blend of historical analysis and literary elegance. He commends the author for his ability to “weave together a tapestry of historical figures, events, and ideas” with “a keen eye for the details that bring history to life.”

The book, argues Romm, is not just a collection of facts and figures, but a dynamic exploration of the human experience. Strassler navigates the complexities of history, showcasing how individuals, events, and ideas intertwine to shape the course of civilization. Romm is particularly impressed by Strassler’s unique approach to historical interpretation, which “challenges traditional narratives and encourages readers to think critically about the past.”

Romm concludes his review by emphasizing the book’s accessibility and appeal to a wide audience. He praises Strassler’s clear and engaging prose, which invites readers to delve into the fascinating world of history without feeling overwhelmed by complex jargon.

Professor Romm’s enthusiastic review in The Chronicle of Higher Education underscores the significance of “The Muse of History.” It suggests that Strassler’s work is a captivating and thought-provoking exploration of the past, offering readers a fresh perspective on historical events and their enduring influence.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
