Enhance classes with various reading materials in your class or grade level. Students must read various materials, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, technical manuals, and newspapers.

Set up a reading environment in all classes. Bring books you are reading to the class and talk about them. Learners are curious about what their educators do. Modeling reading sends a potent message to learners.

Assist learners in becoming aware of their thought processes as readers. Describe how their thought process will help them become better readers and learners. To understand how to do this, take a class, read about strategies that work in the class, or attend a workshop. Ask the district if it will pay for your registration to a workshop or conference.

Teach vocabulary daily. Carry the words posted on a wall connected with clues, books, or references that serve as reminders for learners. Utilize drawings or pictures as definitions or clues to help learners remember. Analyze or add more words each week. This is suitable for all grade levels, from elementary to high school.

You are the main learner in the classroom. With the importance of teaching reading, math, and science skills, learn as much as possible to help your learners become better readers, mathematicians, and scientists. Model strategies for learners and have them practice them until they use them automatically.

Utilize what you learn in staff development seminars in the class. Carry an implementation log that documents how many times you used the strategies you learned over some time. Not only will the strategies help your learners, but you will also be able to pro- duce the evidence that you used the strategies.

Bridge the gap between educators in the same content area or grade level who aren’t working together. Start by initiating conversations about curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
