Congratulations! If you represent a college or university that is included in this list, please collect your seal below.

Deciding which college to attend can be a daunting task. For many, it will be the most important decision that they make in their lives. To make an informed decision, you have to consider a lot of variables, such as cost of attendance, financial aid, student/teacher ratio, academics, student life, and more. These factors will either positively or negatively impact the quality of education that you receive.

Do you want to acquire an online master’s in educational psychology, but don’t know what institution you should attend? Well, if you are as ambitious as I was in my late teens, then you want to attend a top school, instead of an average or mediocre one. Fortunately, we have already done the legwork for you. To help you find the right school for your interests and goals, we’ve compiled a list of 2022’s best online master’s in educational psychology programs.

What institution did we forget? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. University of Georgia, Athens, GA

The University of Georgia has a master of education in educational psychology, applied cognition, and development via its College of Education. This a two-year degree program requires the completion of 34 credits. In their second year, learners finish an applied project that showcases the culmination of the knowledge that they get in the degree program.

Learners may transfer in a maximum of six credits. Learners are still required to finish the necessary number of hours for graduation, which likely means completing additional hours above and beyond the normal amount.

  1. University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL

The University of Alabama is a state-run institution, and its academic programs are split between 13 schools and colleges, which serve a learner body of just under 40,000 learners. The University of Alabama has a master of arts in educational psychology – learning and assessment through their Bama by Distance online learning service. It is a 30 credit-hour degree program. Learners finish a capstone project during their final semester, instead of a holistic examination.

The degree program is open to educators and non-educators alike. Recent learners have included youth ministers and counselors, business managers, education professionals, and individuals working in the social sciences. Candidates to the degree program should have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of degree study.

  1. Ball State University, Muncie, IN

Ball State has an online master of arts degree in educational psychology. The degree program can be finished in as little as 18 months and includes 30 credit-hours of study. Classes within the degree program consist of 18 credits of core classes and 12 credits of electives and concentrations.

Learners may also design a unique class of study that does not necessarily conform to the pre-set paths/concentrations. Learners applying to the degree program are required to provide two professional references, an individual statement, and a resume or Vita.

  1. Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY

Marist has a master of arts in educational psychology. The online degree program utilizes a cohort-based model, which is designed to be finished in two years. Learners can take online classes during the year, which may then be coupled with short, summer residency sessions that help to provide learners with professional experiences/internships.

  1. University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Champaign-Urbana, IL

Illinois Urbana-Champaign has a master of education in educational psychology degree program, which involves 32 credit hours of study. Learners finish their course of study with an advanced seminar in educational psychology. Candidates to the degree program are expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and to submit three letters of reference. Learners must finish at least 12 hours of study at the 500 level. This particular degree has a concentration in evidence-based decision making, which is why it also includes a class entitled “Data, Evidence, & Decisions.”

  1. University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO

Northern Colorado has a master of arts degree program in educational psychology, with an emphasis on teaching applications. It is a five-semester degree program, during which learners are expected to take two classes per semester.  The degree program utilizes the cohort model, such that admitted learners for a particular semester will take the same classes together in an identical sequence. This is why the perfect class of study involves taking all five semesters consecutively.

Candidates are required to have either a bachelor’s degree from a sanctioned college or institution. Learners should have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0, or else they will be required to submit GRE scores. Learners also submit an individual statement that covers their background and connection to the degree program/area of study.

  1. Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL

To apply to the degree program, learners must have a bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. Learners are required to submit GRE Test scores for either the master’s or doctoral degree program, with preference given to those at the 75 and 35 percentiles for verbal and quantitative, respectively.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
