The gamified K–12 keyboarding curriculum offers a unique four-step process to help students play their way into typing

(Helsinki, Finland) September 11, 2018 —TypingMaster Inc., a leading provider of engaging keyboarding courses, today launched TypeTastic School Edition, which includes an entire K-12 keyboarding curriculum, as well as a suite of teacher tools.

“More than 1 million children have played their way into typing with TypeTastic, and School Edition was inspired by their positive feedback and customer requests,” said Petteri Väliaho, the co-founder of TypingMaster. “We are delighted to offer students in all grades a fun way to learn typing, and to help their teachers track their progress.”

The expanded curriculum introduces students to more than 250 entertaining new keyboarding activities that move from locating letters to fluent typing in four fun steps:

Explore the Keyboard: Unique keyboard visualization splits the letters into nine color-coded groups so students see the keyboard like a map and can quickly find the correct letters.

All Fingers Aboard: These games are designed to challenge kids to learn the fundamentals of typing. All sections are centered on finger movement, often first separated into either right- or left-hand activities, followed by more challenging games that use both hands.

Ready, Set, Type!: Keyboarding activities take kids on an adventure through underwater coral reefs, thick jungle vegetation, and serene beach vistas to collect words and letters, with the goal of typing simple words and sentences.

Master Those Keys: In the final step, students dig into the secrets of fluent typing, challenging themselves with more complex words, building up their typing speed, and discovering numbers and symbols.

For teachers, TypeTastic School Edition saves all scores in detail, making it easy to track students’ progress. Teachers can also deliver customized typing tests to assess students, or use the tests as extra material.

TypeTastic School Edition works on every device without apps or plugins. The program supports single sign-on, and it can be integrated using Active Directory Federation Services (SAML 2.0).

TypeTastic School Edition is available at prices starting from $99 a year for a class of 40. A free trial is available through the TypeTastic website, along with a selection of complimentary games to help K–5 students to get familiar with the keyboard.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
