The 2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings are out, and Texas universities continue to hold their place among the nation’s top institutions. The state boasts a strong showing across the board, with numerous schools making significant leaps and solidifying their reputations for academic excellence.

The University of Texas at Austin remains the highest-ranked public university in the state, securing a spot in the top 30 nationally. The institution’s commitment to research and its strong alumni network continue to drive its success. Texas A&M University, another powerhouse, holds steady in the top 50, showcasing its dedication to innovation and its vast array of academic programs.

Private universities in Texas also make their mark. Rice University, renowned for its cutting-edge research and its commitment to undergraduate education, ranks among the top 20 national universities. Southern Methodist University, located in Dallas, continues its steady climb, demonstrating its strong academic offerings and growing national reputation.

While these institutions lead the way, other Texas universities also perform well in the rankings. The University of Houston, UT Dallas, and UT San Antonio all earn notable positions, showcasing the state’s dedication to providing quality education across various academic disciplines.

These strong rankings reflect the dedication to academic excellence and innovation that thrives within Texas universities. As these institutions continue to attract top talent and invest in cutting-edge research, the future of higher education in the Lone Star State looks bright.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
