Sandy, Utah — Oct. 12, 2016 — Do K-12 educators have the power to shape their professional learning destinies? In a nationwide survey of more than 500 principals and teachers, the resounding answer is “not enough.” Episode 4 of the Performance Matters (formerly Truenorthlogic) Educator Viewpoints on Personalized Professional Learning Salon Series explores ways to increase relevance and choice in teacher professional learning. K-12 teachers, school leaders and district administrators are invited to discuss these issues in a free webinar on October 27 at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

Episode 4, titled “Relevance and Choice: Personalization Imperatives,” presents key survey findings and explores best practices to ensure relevance and choice are at the core of professional learning programs. The free online report shares insights and lessons learned from Brevard County Schools (Fla.) and Long Beach Unified School District (Calif.), and provides tools and links to additional reports and articles. The webinar spotlights Fresno Unified School District (Calif.) and its efforts to boost relevance and choice while keeping professional development aligned to strategic goals.

“According to the survey, most teachers and principals would like to see teachers have more control over their professional development choices, and that professional development was more meaningful and relevant,” said Jeanette Haren, chief product officer and co-founder of Performance Matters. “In Episode 4, we’ll examine teacher and leader views on the importance of relevance and choice, and highlight practical ways to create more actionable, meaningful and personalized professional learning.”

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
