New Partnership Integrates 42 Lines’ Harmonize into D2L Brightspace LMS
Students and instructors can now use the robust, media-rich discussion board from their learning management system
(Chicago) April 16, 2020 — 42 Lines, a leader in custom edtech development and creator of the Harmonize online discussion platform, today announced its partnership with global learning technology leader D2L. The LTI-based integration enables institutions to use Harmonize within the D2L Brightspace learning management system (LMS).
With the integration, D2L customers can use Harmonize to elevate the online learning experience by providing world-class technology solutions that improve student engagement and retention. The Harmonize online discussion platform will be accessible from the navigation menu in the Brightspace user interface and can be used in all enrolled courses.
“This partnership is an opportunity for us to join together to offer institutions an elevated discussion board platform, all while never leaving Brightspace,” said John Baker, president and CEO of D2L. “We are excited about the integration between D2L’s Brightspace and Harmonize and its seamless offering for both the students and instructors.”
As colleges and universities expand their online learning programs to meet rising student demand, they are relying on Harmonize to help create a thriving virtual academic community. Median weekly user activity in Harmonize in the first quarter of 2020 is 55% higher than in the same period in 2019. Harmonize customers increased their usage of the platform throughout March, in particular, as the need arose to quickly transition to fully remote learning.
With a visually appealing, easy user interface that mimics social media platforms, Harmonize enables students to quickly survey content at a glance and dive into posts that interest them the most, encouraging greater participation. Asynchronous and live chats for one-on-one and group discussions, along with the ability to share and annotate images and videos within the platform, empower students and instructors to engage in academic conversations bolstered by rich media for deeper learning. Harmonize is easy to use regardless of location or device. Users can transfer drafts fluidly from mobile to desktop and back again.
Instructors have access to qualitative and quantitative data on student participation and course progress in Harmonize, saving time on grading and modifying their strategies to ensure they reach all students. Featuring integrations with leading edtech providers, including LMS solutions and plagiarism prevention tools, Harmonize fits seamlessly within the ecosystem institutions are already providing to students, instructors, and administrators.
“To create conveniently collaborative communities for all students and instructors, we connect with the tech tools they’re already using,” said Marcus Popetz, co-founder and CEO of 42 Lines. “The integration with Brightspace puts Harmonize one click away for everyone who uses this popular LMS.”
Harmonize is instantly available in the Brightspace App Finder. To answer questions and connect live, 42 Lines will be in attendance at the D2L Fusion 2020 Conference that will be held virtually this summer.
