East Stroudsburg, PA – East Stroudsburg University (ESU) is launching a groundbreaking program aimed at fostering stronger connections between incoming students and faculty, creating a supportive network that will guide their academic journey and beyond. The Faculty Mentor Program pairs each first-year student with a faculty member from their chosen major, providing a dedicated point of contact for academic guidance, career exploration, and personal support.

“We believe that fostering meaningful relationships between students and faculty is crucial to their success,” explained Dr. [Insert Name], Dean of [Insert College/Department]. “This program goes beyond traditional advising, creating a true mentorship experience that will empower students to navigate their academic and personal growth.”

The program, which began this fall, utilizes a carefully curated matching system that considers students’ interests, goals, and academic pathways. Faculty mentors are chosen based on their expertise, passion for teaching, and commitment to student success.

“I’m incredibly excited to be a part of this program,” shared Professor [Insert Name], a mentor in the program. “It’s an opportunity to not only guide students academically but also to connect with them on a personal level, offering support and encouragement as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.”

The Faculty Mentor Program offers a range of benefits for both students and faculty:

For Students:

Personalized academic guidance: Mentors provide support with course selection, academic planning, and navigating challenging coursework.

Career exploration and development: Mentors offer insights into career paths, connect students with potential internship and job opportunities, and provide guidance on resume building and interview skills.

Personal support and encouragement: Mentors create a safe space for students to discuss concerns, celebrate successes, and receive valuable advice and encouragement.

For Faculty:

Deepen engagement with students: Mentors gain a better understanding of students’ individual needs, perspectives, and aspirations.

Contribute to student success: Mentors play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal growth.

Foster a sense of community: The program strengthens the bond between faculty and students, creating a more supportive and engaging learning environment.

ESU’s Faculty Mentor Program is a testament to the university’s commitment to student success and holistic development. By fostering meaningful relationships between students and faculty, the program provides a strong foundation for academic achievement, career exploration, and personal growth, ensuring that ESU graduates are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
