Language Learning Apps, Tools, and Resources That We Love

Are you looking for language learning apps, tools, and resources that you can use with your students? If so, we have you covered. Check out our list below. Let us know if there are any that we missed.

Duo-learning – This is a language learning platform that enables students to speak and practice foreign languages with defined parameters and benchmarks. It works with a communicative approach that lets students practice together on specific topics that match their pedagogical goals. The platform helps to track students’ learning curves with onboard testing.

Oh, Noah! – This tool uses a variety of features to teach users Spanish vocabulary. This is a story-based interface designed to present a simplified approach to learning languages. It is designed to be a useful resource for Spanish speakers learning English and English speakers learning Spanish. It features characters, games, videos, and activities–all working together to reinforce language learning.

Lingvist – is an innovative language learning platform designed to help users learn quickly and effectively by tailoring courses to their needs. The platform uses statistical analysis, spaced repetition, and machine learning algorithms to make language learning faster and more efficient by filtering out anything a user doesn’t need or already knows, customizing the course content according to their precise level.

Language Lab – This is a web-based language lab software is designed to facilitate rapid language learning; it is built for corporations and institutions with access to control tools that can be used for trainers and multimedia support. Language Lab study materials are designed to give the appropriate support for students at any level of a spoken language, ranging from beginner to expert.

MindSnacks Learn French– With MindSnacks, you can learn any language; this version is focused on learning French. There are nine unique games that you can play to learn vocabulary, conversational skills, reading abilities, speaking skills, and more. You can learn how to order food, make basic conversation, get around, and more. There is one free level and 49 other levels available for purchase.

Public Speaking VR– With immersive VR experience, students, business professionals, and so many other users can practice their public speaking skills. This app makes use of photorealistic environments and other immersive options to allow for engaging skills practice. The app teaches various skills, including networking, presentations, language learning, and so on. The app uses hardware such as VR headsets, Google Cardboard, Merge VR, and Blizwolf VR; it also supports the Daydream View headset. In the case of app freeze, Google VR services might need to be disabled and restarted.

Shake-a-Phrase: Fun With Words and Sentences– This exciting language learning app provides creative writing prompts, vocabulary, and parts of speech practice. It provides a blend of education and entertainment in class or on-the-go. It has over 2,000 words and definitions in five interactive themes for children aged eight and above. This app provides a new random sentence every time you shake your device, giving you more words to learn. Test your abilities with adjectives, verbs, nouns, prepositions, and conjunctions.

SmartClass+ – This is an electronic language lab solution designed to help students learn a language using simple, intuitive exercises with ample exposure to the language. SmartClass+  helps teachers improve their students’ speaking and listening skills by running classroom activities (e.g., language lab) and individualized activities (language learning center) that challenge and motivate students.

Voxy – Offering a host of products for individuals, teachers, language schools, and higher education institutions,Voxy is focused on English language learning. From finding a one-on-one teacher to guide a student through English lessons to crafting personalized curriculum based on a teacher’s requirements, Voxy avoids boring textbooks and rote memorization and instead focuses on real-world applications and hones in on the English that your learners need right now.

Lyrics Training– Lyrics Training is an app that will help train you in new languages through the power of song. Lyrics Training will translate any of your favorite songs and allow you to sing along. This app creates a unique motivation for foreign language education and makes learning fun and customizable.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
