It’s easy to feel pressure to have your whole life mapped out by the time you graduate high school. But my journey, which started at a community college and landed me a six-figure job at a tech company, proves that success doesn’t follow a straight line.

After high school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. College felt overwhelming and expensive, so I opted for a more affordable option: community college. There, I discovered a passion for web development. The hands-on learning environment and supportive faculty helped me build a strong foundation.

I knew I needed to dive deeper, so I transferred to a four-year university, graduating with a degree in computer science. It wasn’t always easy. I juggled multiple jobs, dealt with imposter syndrome, and faced moments of doubt. But I kept learning, pushing myself outside my comfort zone, and building a network of mentors and peers.

My advice to young people is to explore, experiment, and don’t be afraid to take detours. Your ideal career might not be the one you initially imagined.
