Overview of the University of South Alabama

The University of South Alabama is a public research institution situated in Mobile, Alabama. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to select from. Students are backed by an 18 to 1 student/faculty ratio, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s over 200 clubs and organizations. In athletics, the University of South Alabama Jaguars play in the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference.

Overview of the University of South Alabama Admissions

The University of South Alabama accepts over three-quarters of applicants and has a moderately selective admissions pool with over mean grades and test scores. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants must complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside of the admissions offices mean range. After applying, students will receive a message from an admissions counselor about the next steps of the application process.

Admissions Data             

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, the University of South Alabama had an acceptance rate of 79%. For every 100 students who submitted applications, 79 students gained admission, making USA’s admissions procedure moderately competitive.

SAT Requirements and Scores

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, 9% of students provided SAT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of the University of South Alabama’s students fall within the top 35% nationally on the SAT. 50% of USA’s students scored between 530 and 630 on the evidence-based reading and writing part, while 25% scored under 530 and 25% scored over 630. 50% of students scored between 510 and 610 on the math part, while 25% scored under 510, and 25% scored over 610. Applicants with a cumulative SAT score of 1240 or higher will have a competitive advantage at the University of South Alabama.

ACT Requirements and Scores

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, 94% of students provided ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of the University of South Alabama’s students fall within the top 42% nationally on the ACT. The mean 50% of admitted students to USA received a cumulative ACT score between 21 and 27, while 25% scored over 27, and 25% scored under 21.

GPA

In 2019, the mean high school GPA of incoming freshmen class was 3.70, and nearly half of incoming students had mean GPAs of 3.75 and over. Successful applicants have primarily A grades.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
