Trump’s proposals could deport students, remove federal funding from Penn, DP analysis finds

The potential impact of Donald Trump’s proposed policies on higher education in the United States is a topic of ongoing debate and concern. A recent analysis by The Daily Pennsylvanian (DP) reveals that these policies could have significant and far-reaching consequences for students, faculty, and the University of Pennsylvania itself.

One of the most concerning aspects of Trump’s proposals is the potential for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. The DP analysis highlights the fact that a significant portion of Penn’s student body is made up of international students, many of whom are undocumented. Should Trump’s proposed policies be implemented, these students could face deportation, effectively ending their education and future prospects.

Beyond the immediate impact on students, Trump’s policies could also jeopardize Penn’s financial stability. The DP analysis reveals that the university receives substantial federal funding, which could be at risk if Trump follows through on his proposal to cut funding to institutions that support “sanctuary city” policies. The DP analysis underscores the potential for widespread disruption and hardship within the Penn community if Trump’s proposed policies are implemented. The university, its students, and faculty are closely watching the unfolding political landscape and advocating for policies that support a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
