As the new school year starts, it’s important to ensure that your 5th-grade classroom is well-equipped with all the necessary supplies. To help you stay organized and prepared, here is the ultimate checklist for 5th-grade classroom supplies:

1. Pencils and Pens: Make sure to have a supply of sharpened pencils and pens for writing tasks and assignments.

2. Erasers: Have a few large erasers for students to correct their mistakes.

3. Notebooks: Provide each student with notebooks for different subjects, such as math, science, and language arts.

4. Loose Leaf Paper: Keep an adequate supply of loose-leaf paper for written assignments.

5. Binders: Provide students with binders to keep their papers organized.

6. Folders: Have folders with pockets to store handouts and other important papers.

7. Highlighters: Provide students with highlighters for marking important information in textbooks and notes.

8. Colorful Markers: Have a set of colorful markers for art projects and presentations.

9. Rulers: Ensure that each student has a ruler for measuring and drawing straight lines.

10. Scissors: Have a pair of scissors for each student for cutting paper and craft materials.

11. Glue Sticks: Provide each student with a glue stick for attaching papers and completing craft projects.

12. Calculator: Make sure there are enough calculators for math activities and assignments.

13. Whiteboard Markers and Erasers: Have a set of whiteboard markers and erasers for interactive lessons and activities.

14. Index Cards: Provide index cards for studying vocabulary words and creating flashcards.

15. Sticky Notes: Have sticky notes available for students to jot down reminders and important information.

16. Art Supplies: Include a variety of art supplies, such as colored pencils, crayons, and watercolor paints.

17. Classroom Library Books: Make sure to have a diverse collection of books for independent reading and classroom activities.

18. Tissues and Hand Sanitizer: Keep a supply of tissues and hand sanitizer for a clean and healthy classroom environment.

19. Classroom Decorations: Consider adding some classroom decorations, like posters or bulletin boards, to create an inviting and engaging learning environment.

20. Storage Bins: Provide storage bins for students to keep their belongings organized.

Remember, this checklist is a starting point, and you may need to adjust it based on the specific needs of your classroom. By ensuring that you have all the necessary supplies, you can create a productive and successful learning environment for your 5th-grade students.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
