Oakland University is a public research university located in Rochester, Michigan. Students can select from 130 baccalaureate degree programs. Student life is robust, and the university boasts 300 student organizations, including 17 with Greek affiliations. In athletics, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies play in the NCAA Division I Horizon League.

Overview of Oakland University Admissions

Oakland University, which accepts over three-quarters of applicants, has a moderately selective admissions process. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants must complete an online application and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a challenging course load. During the 2018-19 admissions phase, Oakland University had an acceptance rate of 84%. For every 100 students who submitted applications, 84 students gained admission, making Oakland’s admissions process moderately competitive.

SAT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 90% of students provided SAT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of Oakland’s students score within the top 35% nationally on the SAT. 50% of students admitted to Oakland University scored between 510 and 620 on the evidence-based reading and writing part, 25% scored under 510 and 25% scored over 620. 50% of students scored between 500 and 620 on the math part, while 25% scored under 500, and 25% scored over 620. Applicants with a cumulative SAT score of 1240 or higher will have particularly competitive chances at Oakland University.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
