Kickboard Announces New White Paper on Four Attributes That Ensure Successful School Culture and Climate Initiatives
Nationally recognized thought leaders on climate and culture Tom Hierck and Jennifer Medbery discuss how K-12 districts and schools can launch a successful school-wide initiative
NEW ORLEANS — Aug. 16, 2017 – While school climate and culture initiatives can and do differ greatly from one school district to another, there is one factor central to their success: teachers. In a new white paper titled, “The 4 Attributes That Ensure Successful Culture and Climate Initiatives,” authors Tom Hierck and Jennifer Medbery describe how K-12 districts and schools can provide teachers with the opportunity and the resources to make school a place where all students thrive.
Published by Kickboard, the maker of the Kickboard school culture system, the white paper examines the key elements required to take a consistent, student-centered, and restorative approach to a climate and culture initiative. Drawing upon research and their own expertise in the climate and culture arena, Hierck and Medbery describe how districts and schools can create a collaborative vision for schoolwide culture excellence, capture and share culture data across classrooms, create immediate value for teachers, and use data to drive self-reflection and decision making.
“Teachers are the driving force behind any school culture improvement initiative. So, if they don’t quickly see the value, the initiative will not be implemented effectively,” said Medbery. “In this paper, we discuss how district and school leaders can give teachers the voice, support, and tools they need to become invested and take ownership of a climate and culture initiative. By involving teachers from the beginning and empowering them to become champions of change, schools can take the cohesive, collective, supportive approach that’s needed to bring about a positive culture that gets results.”
Dr. Hierck is an educator and author of several books including “Seven Keys to a Positive Learning Environment in Your Classroom.” Medbery is an author, speaker, and the founder and chief product officer for Kickboard.
