Georgian Court University President Joseph R. Marbach, Ph.D. to Retire in Summer 2025

After a distinguished career spanning decades, Georgian Court University (GCU) President Joseph R. Marbach, Ph.D., has announced his retirement, effective summer 2025. Dr. Marbach, who has served as GCU’s president since 2012, will step down after 13 years of dedicated leadership.
During his tenure, Dr. Marbach spearheaded significant transformations at GCU, including the establishment of new academic programs, the expansion of online learning opportunities, and the modernization of campus infrastructure. His leadership also saw the university navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, emerging stronger and more resilient.
“It has been the greatest honor of my career to serve as President of Georgian Court University,” stated Dr. Marbach. “Witnessing our students grow and succeed, and seeing the positive impact our faculty and staff have on their lives, has been deeply fulfilling.”
Dr. Marbach’s commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement has been instrumental in shaping GCU’s trajectory. Under his guidance, the university achieved significant milestones, including increased enrollment, enhanced national rankings, and a strengthened reputation as a leader in higher education.

The GCU Board of Trustees has initiated a comprehensive search for a new president, aiming to ensure a smooth transition and continued success for the university. Dr. Marbach will work closely with the board and the incoming president to ensure a seamless transition.
