Overview of Fresno State University

California State University, Fresno, is a public university situated on a 388-acre main campus at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to choose from. A robust student/faculty ratio backs students, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations.

Overview of Fresno State University Admissions

Cal State Fresno, which accepts just over half of applicants, has a selective admissions process. The admission process is not holistic. Applicants should complete an online application and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Applicants don’t need to send essays or recommendation letters. Instead, admissions are decided by test scores and GPA. This institution wants to see outstanding grades in the most rigorous classes possible; Advanced Placement, IB, Honors, and dual enrollment classes— the more challenging your high school courses were, the better. During the 2018-19 admissions phase, California State University, Fresno had an acceptance rate of 58%.  for every 100 students who submitted applications, 58 students gained admission, making Fresno State’s admissions process competitive.

SAT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 97% of admitted students provided SAT scores.

This admissions data reveals that most of Fresno State’s admitted students fall within the bottom 29% on the SAT. 50% of students admitted to Cal State Fresno scored between 460 and 570 on the evidence-based reading and writing section, while 25% scored below 460 and 25% scored over 570. 50% of admitted students scored between 460 and 550 on the math section, while 25% scored below 460, and 25% scored over 550. Applicants with a cumulative SAT score of 1120 or higher will have particularly competitive chances at Cal State Fresno.

ACT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 34% of admitted students provided ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of Cal State Fresno’s admitted students fall within the bottom 27% on the ACT. The median 50% of students admitted to Fresno State received a cumulative ACT score between 16 and 22, while 25% scored over 22, and 25% scored below 16.

GPA

In 2019, the mean high school GPA for Cal State Fresno freshmen was 3.18. Successful applicants have primarily high B grades.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
