East Carolina University is a research university (public) situated in Greenville, North Carolina. ECU has strengths in disciplines such as business, communications, education, nursing, and technology. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to choose from. A robust student/faculty ratio backs students, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Student life is robust, with over 300 organizations and numerous fraternities and sororities.

Overview of East Carolina University Admissions

East Carolina University has a somewhat selective admissions process. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants should complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a challenging course load. Interested students should check out the university’s website, which has helpful tips and contact information for the admissions offices. Students with GPAs over 3.5 and SAT composite scores over 1270, or ACT composite scores over 27, may want to consider applying early to East Carolina to be considered for the Honors College.

Admissions Data                        

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, East Carolina University had an acceptance rate of 82%.  for every 100 students who submitted applications, 82 students gained admission, making ECU’s admissions process somewhat competitive.

SAT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 55% of admitted students provided SAT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of East Carolina’s admitted students fall within the top 35% on the SAT. For the reading and writing section, 50% of students admitted to ECU scored between 520 and 600, while 25% scored below 520, and 25% scored over 600. 50% of students scored between 520 and 590 on the math section, while 25% scored below 520, and 25% scored above 590. Students with a composite ACT score of 1190 or higher will have competitive chances at East Carolina University.

ACT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 44% of admitted students provided ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of East Carolina’s admitted students fall within the top 49%. The median 50% of students received a composite ACT score between 20 and 25, while 25% scored over 25, and 25% scored below 20.

GPA

In 2019, the median 50% of ECU’s class had high school GPAs between 3.10 to 3.41. 25% had a GPA of over 3.41, and 25% had a GPA below 3.10. Successful applicants have B grades primarily.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
