Overview of Averett University

Founded in 1859, Averett University is a small institution whose main campus is in Danville, a riverside town in southern Virginia. The university boasts another eleven locations throughout the state that cater to adult learners. Students come from 24 states and 20 countries. The main campus boasts a 12:1 student/faculty ratio and an average class size of 12. Undergraduates can choose from over 30 majors; disciplines in health, business, and criminal justice are most popular. When it comes to athletics, the Averett University Cougars play in the NCAA Division III USA South Conference. The school sponsors seven men’s and seven women’s Division III teams. Popular sports include football, basketball, Track & Field, and soccer.

Overview of Averett University Admissions

With an acceptance rate of 61%, admission is not guaranteed, but over half of the students who apply are accepted. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants must complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside of the admissions offices mean range. About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
