As a child psychologist, you have the unique opportunity to help children and their families through difficult times. Whether you are looking to specialize in a particular area of child psychology or work in a general practice, there are a variety of jobs available to consider. Here are some of the types of child psychology jobs to consider.

1. Child and Family Therapist: A child and family therapist specializes in helping children and their families work through family dynamics, behavioral issues, and other issues that may be affecting their overall well-being. They may provide individual, family, or group therapy depending on the needs of the family.

2. School Psychologist: School psychologists work with children in the school system to assess their learning abilities, emotional and behavioral issues, and set up plans of action to help them succeed. They may also offer individual or group therapy with students, teachers, and/or parents.

3. Child Development Specialist: A child development specialist works with children from infancy through adolescence, taking into account their physical, cognitive, and emotional growth. They may provide counseling services, family therapy, or provide assessments to help parents understand their child’s development.

4. Clinical Psychologist: A clinical psychologist assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, and behavioral issues that may be affecting a child. They may provide individual or group therapy, create treatment plans, and coordinate with other specialists as needed.

5. Research Psychologist: Research psychologists may work in a variety of settings, but their primary focus is on gathering data, conducting research, and evaluating the results. They may be involved in clinical studies to identify new treatments, or they may investigate the effects of various interventions on children.

No matter which type of child psychology job you choose, you will be making a difference in the lives of the children and families you serve. It is a rewarding field that can offer you immense job satisfaction. With the right training and education, you can be successful in any of these types of child psychology jobs.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
