How Getting a College Degree Can Benefit You

College life can be difficult in several ways – physically, personally, financially, academically, intellectually, and socially. Many students wonder whether it is worth going through all the trouble to get a college degree. Here are some abstract and concrete reasons that will show the significance of possessing a degree.

Abstract Reasons

1. Develop Critical Thinking

You will be able to develop your reasoning and critical thinking skills. It will enable you to live your life with greater awareness and improve your quality of life.

2. Contribute to Society

A college degree is necessary to become a doctor, teacher, scientist, or lawyer. When you occupy these positions, you can help people in various ways. You can make lives brighter and contribute to the well-being of society.

3. Have Access to Various Resources

You will have a wide circle of acquaintances. Your college roommate may become an attorney, or a classmate who studied chemistry with you may be a doctor. When you attend alumni meet-ups, some old student of the college may offer you an excellent job. All this can make a lot of difference in your life.

4. Fulfill Your Dreams

In the future, you may develop an interest in education, law, or medicine. If you have already acquired an undergraduate degree, you can specialize in a field of your choice and fulfill your dreams.

5. Experience a Sense of Satisfaction and Pride

Maybe you are the first one in the family to get a college degree, or everyone is a graduate in your house. In both situations, you will experience a sense of satisfaction and be a proud owner of a degree.

Concrete Reasons

1. More Income

You will be able to earn more because a college degree has a lot of monetary value. Your income will be much higher than what it would have been without a degree.

2. Increased Job Opportunities

There will be plenty of job openings for you and more scope for getting promoted to higher positions. You will have a choice to continue working on a job or take another one.

3. Greater Empowerment

You will have proper knowledge of various things and their influence on your life. For instance, you will understand the impact of markets on your retirement. You will be able to handle your family’s finances appropriately.

4. Well Equipped to Face Adversities

In times of adversity, you will be well equipped to overcome them. You may save a lot of money and use it in difficult times. You will be well educated and possess marketable skills that can help in overcoming economic difficulties.

5. Enhance Your Value

A college degree is necessary for getting a good job. If you have a degree and a good job, you can enjoy a financially stable life. After a few years, your job experience will open better job opportunities for you. In this way, you can climb the ladder of success.

So getting a college degree is very beneficial in several ways.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
