The University of Texas at El Paso is a public research institution that offers over 170-degree programs, including 74 bachelor’s, 74 master’s, and 22 doctoral programs within nine programs and schools. A robust student/faculty ratio backs students, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations. In athletics, the UTEP Miners play in the NCAA Division I Conference USA.

Overview of the University of Texas at El Paso Admissions

The University of Texas at El Paso, which accepts 100% of applicants, has a less selective admissions procedure. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants must complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside of the admissions offices mean range. After applying, students will receive a message from an admissions counselor about the next steps of the application process.

Admissions Data

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, the University of Texas at El Paso had an acceptance rate of 100%. For every 100 students who submitted applications, 100 students gained admission, making UTEP’s admissions procedure less selective.

SAT Requirements and Scores

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, 63% of students provided SAT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of UTEP’s students fall within the bottom 29% nationally on the SAT.  50% of admitted students scored between 470 and 570 on the evidence-based reading and writing part, while 25% scored under 470 and 25% scored over 570. 50% of students scored between 470 and 560 on the math part, while 25% scored under 470, and 25% scored over 560. Applicants with a cumulative SAT score of 1130 or higher will have a competitive advantage at the University of Texas at El Paso.

ACT Requirements and Scores

Throughout the 2018-19 admissions phase, 20% of students provided ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of the University of Texas at El Paso’s students fall within the bottom 33% nationally on the ACT. The mean 50% of admitted students to UTEP received a cumulative ACT score between 17 and 22, while 25% scored over 22, and 25% scored under 17.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
