As the new school year approaches, it’s time to start thinking about the essential supplies needed for a successful 3rd grade classroom. Here is the ultimate checklist to ensure that both teachers and students have everything they need:

1. Writing Supplies:

   – Pencils: Provide a variety of pencils, including regular pencils, colored pencils, and mechanical pencils.

   – Erasers: Have a sufficient number of erasers, both standard and pencil-top erasers.

   – Pens: Include both blue and black pens for writing tasks.

   – Markers: Offer a variety of markers, such as dry erase markers, highlighters, and washable markers.

– Crayons: Provide a set of crayons for art-related activities.

2. Paper Products:

   – Notebooks: Supply each student with a few notebooks for different subjects.

   – Loose-leaf Paper: Have loose-leaf paper available for assignments and projects.

   – Construction Paper: Offer a selection of colored construction paper for art projects.

   – Index Cards: Provide index cards to help with memorization and flashcards.

3. Organizational Supplies:

   – Folders: Give each student a couple of folders to help them keep their papers organized.

   – Binders: If desired, provide 3-ring binders for students to store their work.

   – Pencil cases: Students should have a pencil case to store their writing supplies.

   – Plastic bins: Keep classroom supplies organized by having plastic bins for storage.

4. Classroom Essentials:

   – Scissors: Give each student a pair of scissors for arts and crafts projects.

   – Glue sticks: Provide glue sticks for various projects that require adhesive.

   – Tape: Have Scotch tape and masking tape available for different activities.

   – Rulers: Give each student a ruler for accurate measurements.

5. Additional Supplies:

   – Tissues: Have a box of tissues available for students to use.

  – Hand Sanitizer: Promote cleanliness by providing hand sanitizer in the classroom.

   – Disinfecting Wipes: Keep the classroom clean by having disinfecting wipes readily available.

Remember, this checklist is a general guide, and specific requirements can vary depending on the school and teacher. It’s always a good idea to check with your child’s school or teacher for any additional items they may request.

By ensuring that each student has the necessary supplies, you are setting them up for success in their 3rd grade journey. Here’s to a great school year!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
