20 Kindergarten Brain Breaks to Get the Wiggles Out

  1. Simon Says: This classic game helps improve listening skills and gets students moving.
  2. Dance Party: Turn on some music and let the students dance and wiggle around the classroom.
  3. Animal Walks: Pretend to be different animals and have the students mimic their movements.
  4. Yoga Poses: Teach the students simple yoga poses to help them relax and refocus.
  5. Freeze Dance: Play music and have the students dance, but they must freeze when the music stops.
  6. Balloon Volleyball: Use a balloon as a makeshift volleyball and have the students try to keep it in the air.
  7. Toe Tapping: Have the students tap their toes to different beats and rhythms.
  8. Jumping Jacks: Encourage the students to do jumping jacks to get their blood flowing.
  9. Hokey Pokey: Teach the students the classic dance and sing-along song.
  10. Follow the Leader: Choose a leader who performs different movements, and the other students must follow along.
  11. Hula Hooping: Provide hula hoops for the students to twirl around their waist or arms.
  12. Stretching: Lead the students in a series of stretching exercises to help with flexibility.
  13. Marching Band: Give each student a makeshift instrument (e.g., wooden spoons, rice-filled bottles) and have them march to the beat.
  14. Balancing Act: Set up a balance beam or use tape on the floor and have the students practice balancing.
  15. Brain Gym: Incorporate movements from the Brain Gym program to stimulate brain activity.
  16. Tug-of-War: Divide the students into two teams and have them play a friendly game of tug-of-war using a rope.
  17. Scavenger Hunt: Hide objects around the classroom and have the students search for them, following clues.
  18. Musical Chairs: Set up a game of musical chairs and have the students walk around the chairs until the music stops.
  19. Stretchy Bands: Use stretchy exercise bands and have the students pull and stretch them in different directions.
  20. Follow the Dot: Draw dots on the floor in various patterns and have the students follow the dots with their feet.

These 20 Kindergarten Brain Breaks are sure to get the wiggles out and help your students stay engaged and focused throughout the day. Enjoy!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
