1. Encourage growth mindset: Teach children that their abilities can be developed through hard work and determination. Emphasize the importance of effort and learning from failures.

2. Set achievable goals: Help children set realistic goals and break them down into manageable steps. By experiencing small successes along the way, they will learn to persevere.

3. Provide challenges: Expose children to new and difficult tasks that require effort and resilience. This will help them develop problem-solving skills and learn to overcome obstacles.

4. Model perseverance: Demonstrate perseverance in your own life. Show children that setbacks and failures are normal and that it’s important to keep trying and not give up.

5. Teach problem-solving strategies: Teach children different strategies to tackle difficult situations. Encourage them to brainstorm solutions, seek help when needed, and think outside the box.

By implementing these strategies, parents can help their children develop perseverance and resilience, enabling them to navigate challenges and setbacks in the era of helicopter parenting.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
