Introduction:

Twitter is a powerful social media platform where users can share ideas, experiences, and express their opinions on various topics. For educators, Twitter can be an excellent tool for professional growth, networking with other teachers, and finding new resources for their classrooms. If you’re an educator looking to make the most of Twitter, here are three things you can do to enhance your experience and get more out of this dynamic platform.

1. Participate in Twitter Chats:

Twitter chats are scheduled conversations that occur regularly and revolve around a specific topic or theme. They are a great way for educators to collaborate, share insights, and learn from others in the field. To participate in a Twitter chat, search for hashtags related to your interests or subject areas. Some popular education-related hashtags include #EdChat, #STEMchat, and #EdTechChat. Join the conversation by following the designated hashtag and using it in your tweets during the chat session. Engage with others by asking questions, sharing personal experiences, and contributing solutions to common challenges.

2. Curate Content:

Sharing valuable content with your followers is a key component of making the most out of your Twitter account. You can retweet articles, blog posts, and resources that you find relevant or exciting. Create lists on Twitter centered on specific topics or people you want to follow closely – this makes it easy to curate content tailored to your interests. Use Twitter’s Advanced Search feature to find tweets containing certain keywords or phrases related to education so that you never miss important updates within your field.

3. Network with Other Educators:

Expand your professional learning network (PLN) by connecting with other educators from around the world who share similar passions and goals as you. Follow accounts related to education, such as @edutopia or @teachthought, which regularly share helpful resources and information. Attend virtual conferences or webinars related to your subject area, and engage with the speakers using event-specific hashtags. In addition, search for local or regional groups focused on education within your area to find like-minded peers and opportunities for collaboration.

Conclusion:

By participating in Twitter chats, curating relevant content, and networking with fellow educators, you can make the most of the platform and continuously grow as a professional. Twitter not only allows teachers to stay informed about the latest trends and issues in education but also serves as a powerful collaboration tool. So go ahead, dive into the world of educational Twitter and see what possibilities await you.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
