Are you a high school student who wants to attend an institution that marries a liberal arts education with military training? You are in luck because there are plenty of universities in the United States that do just that. In this piece, I will list and discuss the best of them.

The Citadel – Also known as the Military College of South Carolina, the Citadel has a strong academic and leadership focus, and the college requires all students to live on campus. There are no Greek societies on campus, but there are plenty of co-curricular activities. This school is the second best in the nation for veterans, and it also ranks high as a best-value school.

The United States Air Force Academy – Air Force requires that all students engage in military training in addition to their chosen field of study. Cadets commit to an ambitious schedule that takes up most of their days, but they also have an opportunity to become involved in additional activities. Academy graduates are well-known for their integrity, likely because they take the school’s honor code seriously. There is no cost for tuition.

Maine Maritime Academy – This college offers independent and regimental programs of study. Students enrolled in the regimental program train as midshipmen, but there is no requirement for military service. Most students complete academy cruise training consisting of at least four ports of call. This school is a best-value college, and it has a respected engineering program.

Virginia Military Institute – Located in rural Lewisburg, Virginia, this school is #65 among national liberal arts colleges. The cadets at this school live in military-style barracks, but their opportunities for learning are not as sparse as their living quarters; they can choose from 80 programs of study.

The University of North Georgia is a senior military school with five different campuses spread across 31 counties. It is known for its study abroad program. The most popular majors include biology, nursing, and management.
