Known as the “Pathway of the Revolution” New Jersey saw more than 100 battles fought on its soil during the American Revolution. Since then, however, New Jersey may more appropriately be called the “Pathway of Higher Education” since it is home to many world-class universities.

This state offers an impressive array of private and public higher education schools, and these are the campuses stand out among the 2022 best colleges and universities in New Jersey.

Princeton University – Princeton was founded in 1746, making it one of the first institutions of higher education in America and home to the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and School of Engineering and Applied Science. Princeton also takes top honors in best value and best undergraduate teaching. The acceptance rate at this private school is 6%. Annual tuition and fees are $47,140.

College of New Jersey – This school ranks in the top four among colleges in the North, and it’s #9 for undergraduate teaching. It is also the best college for military veterans. Freshmen report a whopping 94% satisfaction rate with the school. The top three majors at the College of New Jersey are business administration, management and operations, and teacher preparation.

Rutgers University – Camden – This private school is ranked #28 among regional universities in the North. A great choice for veterans, a top public school, and a best value school, Rutgers also has an outstanding business program. Nursing and psychology are also popular majors. The school turns down 53% of applicants. Tuition and fees here are just under $15,000 annually.

Monmouth University – A top-notch regional school, Monmouth is ranked #28 among northern schools. The school accepts 74% of its applicants, and these students favor majors in business and management. The university has a recognized engineering program and business program, and it’s a best-value school as well as an excellent college for veterans. Tuition and fees run approximately $38,138.

Rider University – Rider ranks #34 in regional institutions of the North, and it’s a best-value school. Nearly half the classes here have 20 or fewer students, and freshmen retention is 80%, which is above the national average. This university also has a recognized business program. Tuition and fees here run $42,869.

Colleges and universities like this may make New Jersey a top choice when considering pathways for higher education.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
