Introduction:

Standardized tests can be a long and monotonous process for both students and proctors. As a proctor, your main responsibility is to ensure a fair and secure testing environment. However, this doesn’t mean you have to sit idle for hours. In fact, there are plenty of productive and enjoyable activities you can engage in while actively monitoring a standardized test. Here are 17 things you can do to make the most of your time.

1. Read a Book: Bring along a book that you’ve been meaning to read and use this time to dive into a captivating story or gain some knowledge in a subject that interests you.

2. Listen to Podcasts: Download your favorite podcasts or educational episodes to make the time fly by while enriching your mind.

3. Study a New Language: Take advantage of this uninterrupted time to learn a few phrases or expand your vocabulary in a language you’ve always wanted to master.

4. Prepare for a Certification Exam: If you have been contemplating getting certified in a particular field, use this time to study and prepare for the exam.

5. Plan Your Next Vacation: Research destinations, browse travel websites, and create a dream vacation itinerary for your next adventure.

6. Write in a Journal: Reflect on your thoughts, goals, or experiences by writing in a journal. This activity can help you relax and gain clarity.

7. Complete Crossword or Sudoku Puzzles: Stimulate your brain by solving puzzles that challenge your logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

8. Learn a Musical Instrument: Download tutorials or use a mobile app to learn how to play a musical instrument or practice your skills if you already play.

9. Catch Up on the News: Stay informed about current events by reading news articles or listening to news podcasts.

10. Discover New Music: Explore different genres, artists, or curated playlists to broaden your musical horizons.

11. Engage in Mindful Meditation: Practice mindfulness techniques to reduce stress and increase focus and mental clarity.

12. Workout or Stretch: Perform light exercises or stretches to keep your body active and prevent stiffness from sitting for an extended period.

13. Brainstorm Creative Ideas: Use this uninterrupted time to brainstorm and jot down innovative ideas for personal projects or work-related initiatives.

14. Organize Digital Files: Clean up your computer folders, sort files, and ensure everything is well-organized for better productivity.

15. Learn a New Skill Online: Take advantage of numerous online platforms that offer courses and tutorials on a wide range of subjects.

16. Engage in Digital Art: Explore digital art platforms or applications and try your hand at creating digital illustrations or graphic designs.

17. Make a To-Do List: Prioritize and plan your upcoming tasks, both personal and professional, to stay organized and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Conclusion:

Who said proctoring a standardized test has to be boring? By engaging in these activities, you can make the most of your time while actively monitoring a standardized test. Remember to always prioritize the students’ experience and follow the guidelines provided by your institution or testing agency.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
