The end of the school year is approaching, and it’s time to wrap up the academic year on a high note. Whether you’re a teacher, a parent, or a student looking for fun and engaging activities, here are 15 end-of-year assignments and activities for every grade level:

1. Create a memory book: Have students reflect on their favorite moments from the school year by creating a memory book filled with photos, drawings, and written memories.

2. Time capsule: Have students bring in items or write letters to their future selves, seal them in a container, and bury it in the schoolyard. Open the time capsule years later to see how much has changed.

3. Classroom awards: Organize a fun awards ceremony where students receive lighthearted awards for things like “Best Listener” or “Class Clown.”

4. Field day: Plan a day filled with outdoor activities, such as relay races, obstacle courses, and water balloon fights.

5. Talent show: Give students a chance to showcase their talents, whether it’s singing, dancing, or magic tricks.

6. Scavenger hunt: Create a scavenger hunt that incorporates educational elements, leading students to discover interesting facts or solve puzzles.

7. Letters to next year’s students: Have students write letters of advice or encouragement to the students who will be in their grade next year.

8. Collaborative art project: Engage students in a group art project where each student contributes a small piece to create a larger artwork.

9. Classroom clean-up: Teach students about responsibility and teamwork by organizing a classroom clean-up day, where they work together to declutter and organize the space.

10. Play day: Set up various play stations in the classroom or on the school grounds, including board games, LEGO stations, and arts and crafts activities.

11. Movie marathon: Choose a series of age-appropriate movies and have a movie marathon day, complete with popcorn and snacks.

12. Science experiment extravaganza: Conduct a series of hands-on science experiments that are both educational and fun.

13. Career day: Invite professionals from various fields to share their experiences and inspire students about future career possibilities.

14. Reflective journaling: Have students write journal entries reflecting on their growth, achievements, and challenges throughout the school year.

15. Graduation ceremony: Organize a mini graduation ceremony, complete with caps and gowns, to celebrate students moving on to the next grade level.

Remember, the end of the school year is a time to celebrate accomplishments and create lasting memories. These 15 end-of-year assignments and activities are sure to make the final weeks of school exciting and memorable for students of all ages.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
