Overview of University of West Alabama

The University of West Alabama first opened its doors in 1839 when it was a church-related female academy. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to select from. Students are backed by a 14 to 1 student/faculty ratio, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations.  The UWA Tigers play in the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference for most sports. The university fields six men’s and seven women’s intercollegiate teams.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
