Field trips are perfect for providing learners with a balance of valuable knowledge and fun. They can teach learners everything they need to know on a particular subject, making the lessons exciting and practical.

However, many educators believe that m-learning and field trips don’t go hand-in-hand. Although this could be true, advancements in tech have provided schools with a unique and exciting way to include field trips in the syllabus for learners who study through mobile devices.

M-learning and Field Trips

Experts and developers are constantly coming out with new and exciting educational tools.

As we have already mentioned, many educators believe that you will not go on any field trips if you study via a mobile device or online. However, this is not true. Developers have made a way in which learners can experience a field trip virtually by using 3D glasses, touch screen devices and QR codes.

Although this may sound confusing and far too innovative, it is relatively simple to use. More so, virtual field trips are incredibly convenient, as you don’t even have to leave your home to gain experience.

What Is a QR Code, and How Is It Used for Virtual Field Trips?

A QR code acts similarly to a square bar code. In education, it can be scanned to provide learners with access to a particular virtual field trip.

Each QR code is used for a particular trip. In other words, your code can only be used to access its designated field trip. One of the significant advantages of using this learning method is that you can go on trips worldwide without actually leaving your home.

Virtual Field Trip Apps

There are many apps that you could use to gain access to these virtual field trips:

  • iPlanFieldTrips
  • Hear Planet
  • Museum Hunt
  • Poetic Places
  • Fieldtripper

There are even a few platforms that you could use to make your own virtual field trips. This is a great idea for sharing your thoughts and experiences with learners from all over the world, creating a platform for innovative and interactive learning.

Conclusion

Most people believe that m-learning and field trips cannot go hand-in-hand. However, thanks to tech advancement, developers have made a way to access virtual field trips using QR codes.

Each QR code allows a learner to access its designated virtual field trip. One of the many significant advantages of using this tech is that learners can experience and learn about places on the opposite side of the world without ever physically leaving their homes. Apps such as iPlanFieldTrips and Fieldtripper can be used to share virtual field trips.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
