New Higher Ed Leaders: Arkansas Tech, Cal State Chico & More

From Arkansas to Florida, several institutions of higher education are welcoming new leaders to their ranks. As the academic landscape continues to evolve, these fresh faces are poised to shape the future of their respective universities and colleges.

Arkansas Tech University: Dr. Robin L. Bowen has taken the helm as the 15th president of Arkansas Tech University. Bowen, who previously served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the university, is known for her commitment to student success and faculty development. She plans to prioritize innovation, collaboration, and a focus on the changing needs of the workforce in her new role.

California State University, Chico:  Dr. Hector Sanchez has been appointed as the new president of Cal State Chico. Sanchez, who comes from a distinguished career in higher education administration, brings a wealth of experience in student success, diversity, and equity. His focus is on fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that prepares students for a globalized world.

Dunwoody College of Technology: Dr. Mark Lombardi has been named the new president of Dunwoody College of Technology, a renowned technical college in Minnesota. Lombardi, a seasoned academic leader with a background in engineering and technology, intends to build upon Dunwoody’s legacy of excellence while emphasizing industry partnerships and innovative teaching methods.

Harford Community College: Dr. Michael D. Dorsey has assumed the position of president at Harford Community College in Maryland. Dorsey, a dedicated advocate for community colleges and workforce development, brings a passion for student access and success. He plans to strengthen the college’s ties to local businesses and create more opportunities for students to pursue their passions.

Milligan University: Dr. Mark G. Tate has taken over as the 15th president of Milligan University, a private Christian university in Tennessee. Tate, an experienced leader in higher education, is known for his commitment to faith-based education and student development. He plans to guide the university towards a future marked by innovation, community engagement, and a strong sense of purpose.

Shenandoah University: Dr. Tracy FitzGerald has been appointed as the new provost at Shenandoah University, a private university in Virginia. FitzGerald, a seasoned academic administrator with a background in communication and technology, is focused on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and supporting faculty in their teaching and research endeavors.

University of Florida: Dr. Joseph Glover has been named the new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Florida. Glover, an accomplished academic leader with a background in physics and materials science, is committed to promoting excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching at one of the nation’s leading public universities.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette:  Dr. DeWayne Bowie has been appointed as the new provost at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Bowie, an experienced administrator with a passion for student success and faculty development, is focused on enhancing the university’s academic reputation and creating a vibrant learning community.

These newly appointed leaders bring a wealth of experience, diverse perspectives, and a shared commitment to the transformative power of higher education. As they navigate the challenges and opportunities of their respective institutions, they are poised to shape the future of higher education for the benefit of students, faculty, and their communities.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
