Raleigh, NC – In a move that has shocked and saddened many within the NC State community, Chancellor Randy Woodson is expected to announce his departure from the university on [Date]. After twelve years at the helm, Woodson will be stepping down, leaving a legacy of significant accomplishments and a university poised for continued success.

Woodson arrived at NC State in 2010, inheriting a university facing significant budget cuts and a challenging academic landscape. He immediately set about implementing a vision of academic excellence, research innovation, and a more vibrant campus life. Under his leadership, the university saw:

Record Enrollment: NC State’s enrollment has reached record highs, solidifying its position as one of the largest universities in the country.
Increased Research Funding: Research activity at NC State has flourished under Woodson’s tenure, with significant increases in grant funding and a focus on cutting-edge discoveries.
New and Renovated Facilities: The campus has undergone a dramatic transformation with the construction of new buildings and the renovation of existing ones, including the Hunt Library and the Talley Student Union.
Enhanced Athletics: The athletic programs at NC State have seen success under Woodson’s leadership, including multiple NCAA championships and a commitment to student-athlete well-being.

While Woodson’s impact on NC State is undeniable, his departure has sparked a wave of speculation and concern about the future of the university. Many are wondering who will succeed him and what their vision for the institution will be.

A press conference is scheduled for [Date] where Woodson is expected to announce his departure formally and address his plans for the future. The university is expected to launch a search process for a new chancellor in the coming weeks.

The NC State community will be closely watching as the university enters this new chapter. While many will be saddened by Woodson’s departure, there is a sense of optimism about the future, fueled by the strong foundation he has built and the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
