Ira Bates to Lead School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University
Florida A&M University (FAMU) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ira Bates as the new Dean of the School of Business and Industry (SBI). Dr. Bates, a seasoned academic leader with a distinguished career in business education, will officially assume his new role on July 1, 2023.
Dr. Bates brings a wealth of experience and expertise to FAMU, having previously served as Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Alabama State University. His leadership at ASU was marked by significant achievements, including the launch of new graduate programs, increased research activity, and enhanced student engagement.
Dr. Bates’ academic background includes a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Alabama, a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from North Carolina A&T State University.
His appointment follows a rigorous national search process and comes at a crucial time for the SBI. FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson II expressed his confidence in Dr. Bates’ ability to lead the school to new heights, stating, “Dr. Bates’ proven track record of success and his commitment to student success make him an ideal choice to lead our School of Business and Industry.”
