Overview of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)

The Fashion Institute of Technology is a public college situated on West 27th Street in Manhattan’s fashion district. Students can choose from more than 40 majors and 8 certificate programs. The curriculum has a liberal arts focus, but students can also expect significant hands-on, real-world educational experiences. Academics are backed by a 16-to-1 student/faculty ratio. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations.

NCAA Athletic Programs

  • In athletics, the FIT Tigers play in six women’s, 4 men’s, and two coed sports.

Overview of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Admissions

The Fashion Institute of Technology accepts just over 50% of applicants and has a selective admissions process. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants should complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a challenging course load. Admissions Data                        

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, the Fashion Institute of Technology had an acceptance rate of 53%.  for every 100 students who submitted applications, 53 students gained admission, making FIT’s admissions process competitive.

SAT and ACT Requirements and Scores

Although not required for admission, applicants must submit the essay portion of the SAT or ACT for placement in English classes. Students who have not taken the SAT/ACT must take placement exams at the university before enrollment.

GPA

The Fashion Institute of Technology reports that successful applicants have a B or better mean in high school.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
