CSM Receives $375,000 Safety Grant from Maryland Higher Education Commission to Enhance Security Measures
Continuing its commitment to providing a safe and secure learning environment, Chesapeake College (CSM) has been awarded a significant $375,000 safety grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). This funding will be used to implement a range of security enhancements across its campuses, ensuring the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
The grant, part of MHEC’s ongoing efforts to support campus safety initiatives, recognizes the importance of proactive measures to address potential threats. CSM plans to utilize the funds to implement the following measures:
Upgraded Security Systems: The grant will facilitate the installation of state-of-the-art security cameras, access control systems, and emergency communication technology, enhancing situational awareness and response capabilities.
Enhanced Training and Education: CSM will invest in comprehensive security training programs for all personnel, focusing on active shooter response, threat assessment, and de-escalation techniques. The training will empower individuals to identify and respond effectively to potential security risks.
Increased Security Personnel: The grant will support the hiring of additional security personnel, providing a visible presence on campus and bolstering response capabilities during critical incidents.
Mental Health Resources: Recognizing the importance of addressing mental health concerns, CSM will allocate a portion of the grant to expand mental health resources and support services for students and staff.
“The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority,” said [Name and Title], CSM president. “This grant from MHEC allows us to take significant steps towards strengthening our campus security infrastructure and providing the necessary resources to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all.”
