AAUW Speaks Out Forcefully Against the Attacks on DEI
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) condemns the recent and ongoing attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the country. These attacks, often fueled by misinformation and political agendas, threaten the very foundation of a fair and just society.
DEI is not about “cancel culture” or “identity politics.” It’s about creating inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive. DEI programs strive to dismantle systemic barriers that have historically marginalized and excluded certain groups. This includes addressing disparities in access to education, employment, and healthcare, and ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
The attacks on DEI are not only harmful to marginalized communities, but also detrimental to the overall progress of our society. By fostering a culture of inclusion, we benefit from a wider range of perspectives, ideas, and experiences. This leads to richer discourse, innovative solutions, and a more dynamic and vibrant society.
AAUW, as an organization dedicated to advancing the educational and economic equity of women and girls, firmly believes that DEI is essential for achieving these goals. We stand in solidarity with those who are fighting to protect and strengthen these initiatives. We urge all individuals and institutions to resist the harmful rhetoric and embrace the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. By working together, we can build a more just and equitable future for all.
