4 Questions About the Blended Classroom That Educators Must Answer

The blended classroom is a type of learning that focuses on learner engagement and active learning. Learners arrive in the classes having already learned a portion of the classwork in their own time. The educator then engages in discussions with the class, and the learners complete projects and assignments under supervision.

This method of teaching is becoming more and more popular every year. We will be discussing 4 questions about the blended classroom that educators must answer.

How Do I Ensure Sufficient Learning During Remote Learning?

Blended learning involves learners arriving to class, having already studied a portion of their work. This makes it essential for the learners to do work remotely or in their own time. So, how do educators ensure that learners study sufficiently when at home?

There are lots of answers to this question. Educators could hold video conferencing calls and audio chats with their learners using the appropriate software for such a set-up. The apps can create a virtual classroom, and therefore make remote learning much simpler and efficient.

You could also hold class discussions during every lesson. This way, learners will feel that they have to study at home to keep up with the rest of the class. Ask engaging questions that require critical thinking.

How Do I Design Class Activities?

Since educators will not be spending their class time teaching their learners, they need to make sure that they design practical activities to make lessons worthwhile. These learning experiences should be very engaging. Good examples include role-playing games, learning stations and mind maps.

Physical classes are perfect for encouraging teamwork and social education. For this reason, educators should get their learners to do projects and assignments in groups so that students can learn from each other.

How Do I Hold Learners Accountable?

Most learners prefer to let their grades suffer if it means putting less effort into their work. The blended classroom would not suit these learners, so that makes it essential for educators to find methods to hold all learners accountable.

Educators need to describe instructions to learners in-depth. Challenge your learners to class discussions based on the work they were supposed to study at home. This will make it obvious who did and didn’t do as they were assigned.

How Do I Organize Material and Content?

To have a well-designed and efficient blended classroom, educators need to organize their material and content efficiently. Educators must prepare for their lessons by having all of the required materials ready to go. They should also plan out what they aim to achieve in each lesson. This will make classes efficient and productive.

Conclusion

For the blended classroom approach to be successful, educators need to ensure sufficient learning is done during remote learning. They must also design efficient class activities and find a way to hold learners accountable for the effort they put into their work. Educators should also organize all their materials and content for lessons.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
