Children all over the world struggle when it comes to reading. There is such a complicated process placed in front of them to wrap their heads around what to do. It is essential to focus on the right features and steps so that children can learn better.

Let’s look at some practical steps to incorporate in the reading process to help children learn to read better than they have been taught before.

Awareness And Appreciation Of Written Words And Text

It is essential to start with the awareness and appreciation of words and texts in written form. Surround your child with books for their level and understand how crucial it is to learn how to read.

You can do this by incorporating stores and various activities that have to do with reading. This way, they will enjoy being able to learn about new words and reading texts. You can point out how vital reading in various ways, especially its importance for communication.

Learning The Alphabets

Start with the basics of the alphabet. It is the primary step that an instructor or parent must take to ensure that the child can learn more advanced reading stages.

Not only is it essential for the child to know the names of the letters, but they should also understand that every letter has a sense of purpose attached to it. You can use various apps for alphabet-learning for your child to engage them better with the learning of the alphabet.

Development Of Phonological And Phonemic Awareness

The next part of the process revolves around the child developing phonemic and phonological awareness. Listening and speaking require the use of sounds. Children need to be taught how to make use of sounds for their reading process.

With a focus on the teaching of phonics, it can become much easier for children to understand how to identify different sounds with words and create meaning out of them.

Spelling Words And Reading

Once your child is done with the basics of the alphabet, phonological and phonemic awareness, you will need to ensure that they focus on spelling and starting with their reading. It isn’t a simple process and requires a lot of attention.

As a parent, you must effectively provide your child with the right home environment that promotes literacy. Make use of apps and tools for reading to further help with this.

Concluding Thoughts

The cycle of learning how to read is not as easy as people make it to be. Prepping the correct elements for your child is essential to learn to read with more enthusiasm rather than struggling their way through.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
