Hamilton College is a private liberal arts college situated in upstate New York. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to choose from. The college’s curriculum places particular emphasis on personalized instruction and independent research. A healthy student/faculty ratio backs academics, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations.

Overview of Hamilton College Admissions

Hamilton College has a competitive admissions process with a low acceptance rate and high mean SAT/ACT scores. Applicants must complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a challenging course load. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside the admission offices’ mean range. After applying, students will receive a message from an admissions counselor about the next steps of the application process. Interested students should check out the university’s website, which has helpful tips and contact information for the admissions offices.

Admissions Data                        

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, Hamilton College had an acceptance rate of 21%.  For every 100 students who submitted applications, 21 students gained admission, making Hamilton’s admissions process highly competitive.

SAT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 51% of students provided SAT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of Hamilton’s students fall within the top 20% on the SAT. 50% of students admitted to Hamilton scored between 670 and 740 reading and writing section, while 25% scored below 670 and 25% scored over 740. 50% of admitted students scored between 680 and 770 on the math section, while 25% scored below 680, and 25% scored over 770. Students with a composite SAT score of 1510 or higher will have competitive chances at Hamilton College.

ACT Requirements and Scores

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 43% of students provided ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that most of the admitted students fall within the top 5% on the ACT. The median 50% of admitted students received a composite ACT score between 31 and 34, while 25% scored over 34, and 25% scored below 31.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
