Overview of Allegheny College Admissions

Allegheny College, which admits less than two-thirds of applicants, boasts a competitive admissions pool. However, Allegheny also has a robust admissions process that involves a multitude of academic measures. A persuasive essay and glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a demanding course load. The institution is looking for students who will contribute to the university community in profound ways, not only individuals that have outstanding grades. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside of Allegheny’s mean range.

Admissions Data

Acceptance Rate

During the 2018-19 admissions phase, Allegheny College had an acceptance rate of 64%. This means for every 100 students who submitted applications, 64 students gained admission. This makes Allegheny’s admissions process competitive.

SAT  Requirements and Scores

Allegheny has a test-optional testing policy. Applicants to Allegheny may submit SAT or ACT scores to the school, but they are not required. During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 51% of admitted students provided SAT scores.  non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. permanent residents must submit standardized test scores.

This admissions data reveals that of those students who submitted scores during the 2018-19 admissions phase, most of Allegheny’s admitted students score within the top 35% nationally on the SAT. For the reading and writing section, 50% of students admitted to Allegheny scored between 560 and 680, while 25% scored under 560, and 25% scored over 680. In math, 50% of admitted students scored between 560 and 660, while 25% scored under 560, and 25% scored above 660. The SAT is not required, but this data reveals that an overall SAT score of 1340 or higher is competitive.

ACT  Requirements and Scores

Allegheny College boasts a test-optional testing policy. During the 2018-19 admissions phase, 27% of admitted students sent ACT scores. This admissions data reveals that of those who sent scores during the 2017-18 admissions phase, most of Allegheny College’s admitted students score within the top 26% nationally on the ACT. The low 50% of students admitted to Allegheny received an overall ACT score between 24 and 30, while 25% scored over 30, and 25% scored under 24.

GPA

In 2018, the mean high school GPA of Allegheny College’s freshmen class was 3.51, and 59% of students had a mean GPA of 3.5 and over. The results suggest that successful applicants to Allegheny College have primarily high B grades.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
