Stress balls are a great tool for both students and teachers to relieve stress and promote relaxation in the classroom. Making your own stress balls is not only fun but also cost-effective. Here’s a simple and creative DIY project that you can do with your students to create their own stress balls.

Materials needed:

  • Balloons (latex or rubber)
  • Fillings (such as flour, rice, or sand)
  • Funnel
  • Scissors
  • Markers or stickers for decorating (optional)

Instructions:

1. Start by cutting the neck off the balloon to create an opening.

2. Insert the funnel into the opening of the balloon.

3. Fill the balloon with the desired filling. You can use flour, rice, or sand depending on the consistency and texture you want in your stress balls. Experiment with different materials to find what works best for you.

4. Once the balloon is filled, carefully remove the funnel and squeeze out any excess air before tying a knot to seal it.

5. You can also decorate the stress balls by using markers or stickers to add a personal touch.

Tips:

  • Encourage your students to be creative and come up with their own designs. They can draw faces, patterns, or write inspirational messages on their stress balls.
  • Use different colors of balloons to make the stress balls more visually appealing.
  • Discuss the importance of using stress balls as a relaxation tool and incorporate it into your classroom routine. Encourage students to use them during breaks, before exams, or when they feel overwhelmed.
  • Remind students to use the stress balls responsibly and not to throw them or use them as toys.

By creating their own stress balls, students can not only have a tangible tool to manage stress but also take pride in their creative work. It’s a simple yet effective way to promote a calmer and more focused classroom environment. So, gather your materials and have fun making DIY stress balls with your students!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
