4 Reasons to Use LMS in Your Language Class

With the world becoming increasingly interconnected and globalized, language classes have become more essential than ever in higher education. More learners experience cultural and linguistic diversity during their lives and careers. Language classes are a great setting for learners to develop intercultural awareness and communication skills in many languages.

Although traditional lessons that happen in a classroom have been the standard for decades and probably aren’t going anywhere, adding a LMS, Learning Management System, to the learning process can help improve your learners’ engagement. We will examine why a LMS can be a good tool for your language class.

Nobody Is Left Behind

Learning a language requires a sense of discipline. However, most university learners need to skip one or two lessons due to commutes, busy schedules and part-time jobs. When they get back, though, they feel left behind. In an online learning setting, learners can follow up on the missed topics, and catching up becomes second nature.

A LMS is made to work on any device, so learners and educators can easily use them whenever they want, allowing them to keep up with their classes at all times.

Accommodation for Learning Diversity

Each learner has a unique approach to learning a language, from learning styles and methods to classroom participation to receiving and giving feedback. A LMS allows educators to accommodate the diversity of learning in each class because it enables learners to engage with their classwork in the way they want and at their personal pace.

Sharing and Collaboration

Immersing oneself in a culture has never been easier, thanks to all the available online resources. A LMS can combine these resources and make good use of them, allowing educators and learners to make libraries that follow their interests.

They can then share these libraries with their peers in groups to receive feedback and collaborate. Written messages that are exchanged in study groups can be archived with ease to be accessed later.

Constant Improvements

Some learners may not feel comfortable with receiving and giving feedback in front of their classes. A LMS allows educators to give their learners instant feedback on homework, and learners can track their individual progress with ease without the pressure from their peers that can occur in a classroom.

Conclusion

Although interacting face-to-face in a classroom can be beneficial, adding a LMS to language learning can boost academic results. They allow educators the ability to personalize their learning approaches to cater to the individual needs of their learners without the time constraints of a physical classroom.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
