Oil is big in Oklahoma, and so is engineering. That combination alone might be enough to help excellent colleges and universities to thrive in the Sooner State, but many of the 42 schools have been recognized in other areas as well.

Here are the 2022 best colleges and universities in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Baptist University – This school is tied for third place among Western regional colleges. The school offers students the opportunity to study from 80+ courses for their degrees and to participate in more than 100 organizations. Unmarried students who have not yet reached 21 years of age must live on campus. Annual tuition and fees are $28,258.

Southwestern Christian University – Ranked at #24 among western regional colleges, this school embraces the motto “scholarship, spirit, service” in everything it does. The small school offers traditional programs of study as well as adult and online courses. The annual tuition and fees here run approximately $17,630.

Oklahoma City University – A private school, Oklahoma City University offers students a liberal arts curriculum steep in Methodist traditions. This is a best-value choice, and the school ranks #28 among universities in the western region of the United States.   The annual tuition and fees are approximately $31,000.

Two universities in Oklahoma, one private and one public, rank in the top 100 universities in the nation: the University of Tulsa and the University of Oklahoma.

University of Tulsa – Coming in at #106 in the United States, the University of Tulsa has a recognized petroleum engineering and natural sciences college, as well as four other colleges. The school also offers robust academic and co-curricular programs. The school is also considered culturally diverse, veteran-friendly and a best-value choice. Tuition and fees will cost you approximately $39,552 per year.

University of Oklahoma  – This school is unranked among national universities in America. It is a public research school that describes itself as “a major university experience in a private college atmosphere.” Most notably, this university caps its freshman English classes at nineteen students, which was a first among large schools. OU is a member of the Big 12 conference in collegiate sports. Tuition and fees are approximately $9,062, and the university is a best-value choice school.

Oklahoma participates in the Academic Common Market, so students from neighboring states can attend school in Oklahoma, paying only in-state tuition and fees.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
