My iPhone is Not Ringing and Only Vibrates – How to Fix the Issue

Introduction:

Imagine the frustration when you’re expecting an important call, only to find out that your iPhone isn’t ringing and is just vibrating. You’re not alone – many users have encountered this issue before. In this article, we are going to explore the common reasons for this problem and provide step-by-step solutions to help you get your iPhone’s sound back on track.

1. Check the Ring/Silent switch

One of the simplest reasons for an iPhone not ringing might be that it’s unintentionally set to silent mode. The Ring/Silent switch is located on the side of your iPhone. Ensure that it’s not toggled towards the back, which indicates silent mode. If it is, simply toggle it forward to enable the ringing function.

2. Adjust the volume level

A low volume level may be causing your iPhone to vibrate instead of ringing. Press the volume up button along the side of your iPhone several times to increase the volume and observe if it starts ringing as expected.

3. Check your iPhone’s settings

If the above steps haven’t resolved the issue, check your settings:

a) Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics (or Sounds on older models).

b) Make sure “Vibrate on Ring” is turned off if you don’t want your phone to vibrate.

c) Ensure that “Ringer and Alerts” volume slider is turned up.

4. Update your software

It’s crucial to keep your iPhone updated regularly, as software updates can sometimes resolve glitches leading to sound issues. To check for updates:

a) Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

b) Install any available updates by following on-screen instructions.

5. Restart your iPhone

Sometimes a simple restart may solve intermittent issues like this one:

a) Press and hold either volume button and the side button until a slider appears.

b) Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone.

c) After a few seconds, turn on the device by pressing and holding the side button until you see the Apple logo.

6. Check your contacts’ ringtone settings

If only specific contacts’ calls are not ringing, check their individual ringtone settings.

a) Open a specific contact’s details in your Contacts app.

b) Tap Edit in the top-right corner.

c) Tap Ringtone, and make sure a ringtone is selected. If not, choose one from the list.

Conclusion:

Hopefully, by following these steps, you have successfully resolved the issue of your iPhone not ringing and only vibrating. If none of these solutions work for you, consider reaching out to Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store for professional assistance. Don’t let a minor technical glitch stand between you and important calls!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
